Our mouth is one of the most sensitive parts of our body. If you’ve have had Root Canals and are yet to be completed and a permanent crown still needs to be placed, you are to minimize chewing on the tooth that is being repaired. When the treatment is complete, your tooth is likely to be sensitive for a number of days due to the inflammation of your tissues. This can be controlled with over-the-counter pain medications and most patients can get back to their regular activities after a day or two.

Pain Relief:

  • Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that can be bought without prescriptions such as ibuprofen can be taken to relieve pain.
  • If the patient is NSAID or Aspirin sensitive, Tylenol can be used as an alternative.
  • If the pain still persists after taking over-the-counter medications, a prescription medication can be used. The likelihood that there is a remnant infection must be examined.

Infection:

The likelihood of infection following a successful procedure is very rare. But,
in case there is suspicion that an infection is taking place:

  • The patient may be given antibiotics to get rid of the remnant infection.
  • The root canal is likely to be reopened, cleansed, and re-sealed during the
    repeat procedure.

Temporary Crown Care Tips:

Without a permanent crown, your tooth will be left unprotected. Do your bst to not bite on the side of the mouth to be treated to avoid stressing your unprotected tooth.

Patients are only allowed to eat soft foods until the tooth is fully healed and when they feel it is safe to do so. Do not eat crunchy or hard foods because it increases the
probability of damaging the temporary filling. Hard foods can even break the
tooth.

Brush gently. When brushing the teeth you need to be careful on the area to be treated. Take your time and don’t force brushing the teeth. Take note that it will be difficult to floss around a temporary filling. Do not rush it as you may dislodge it. If you have difficulty brushing your teeth, contact your specialist so that they can reshape it.

Treat discomfort as soon as you can. Most treatment with root canal today comes with sedation to make sure it won’t hurt. After the procedure, you’ll feel pain and discomfort from time to time. Take pain relievers to manage the pain and discomfort.

In most cases, the patient can drive after the root canal treatment. However it will still be determined by the strength of the sedative. It is best to let someone else drive you home. However, if your tooth hurts, and regardless of any excruciating
toothache that you are suffering from, that is definitely going to stop.

Why is Aftercare Important?

Aftercare is important because it affects the structure of the tooth. Those who have undergone this type of Endodontics service should follow the guidelines laid out to have a problem-free and speedy recovery.
